Fall is in the air and nothing says autumn like the smell of apples and cinnamon baking in the oven. When I developed this Brown Sugar Apple & Fig Crisp recipe last week, I was planning on visiting friends and wanted to bring something.

My mom always taught me to never come empty handed when being invited to someone’s home, what’s better to bring a gift that is handmade and delicious. That morning I wasn’t sure what to make but I saw a lot of apples on the kitchen counter staring back at me and I think they were talking back at me, saying, eat me, eat me! I wanted to create an apple crisp recipe that had another flavor going on in it so I added dried figs and the end result was scrumptious. When serving this, add ice cream to it and perhaps some caramel sauce bringing this dish to a whole new level.
