Wouldn’t it be nice to bite into a chocolatey, fudgy dessert and it would be calorie free and good for you? Ha, ha…wake up from your dream, we all could only wish. You can have this fudgy Nutella brownie in moderation though and enjoy every luscious bite. There is something so good about hazelnut spread, sweet, earthy and chocolatey, it’s a marriage made in chocolate heaven when poured into this brownie batter and baked. Your house will smell like a bakery and people will come running for them, they are perfect anytime but swirling the frosting on top of each square and garnished with some chopped hazelnuts gives them a celebratory attitude that is wonderful at parties.
Ingredients
½ cup unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup Nutella hazelnut chocolate spread
¾ cup sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons instant espresso granules
Pinch of salt
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup chopped hazelnuts plus a bit extra for garnishing
Nutella Chocolate Frosting
1 cup unsalted butter softened at room temperature
3/4 cup Nutella
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons milk
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- In a microwave safe bowl combine the butter and chocolate chips and microwave on high for approximately 2 to 3 minutes stirring in 1 minute intervals until melted and smooth, once melted whisk vigorously to combine the melted butter with the chocolate and set aside.
- In a medium mixing bowl or in a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, mix the Nutella, sugar, eggs, vanilla, instant espresso and pinch of salt until well combined, don’t overmix.
- Add the melted chocolate and flour and combine just until it is mixed in, stir in the hazelnuts
- Pour the batter In a well-greased or parchment lined 8X8 baking pan
- Bake in the oven for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, edges should come away slightly from the edge of pan and toothpick inserted comes out clean when done. Let cool completely before cutting.
- While brownies are baking, mix all of the frosting ingredients together in a mixing bowl with a hand mixer or in a stand mixer and whip until light and fluffy. Frost brownies once they are cooled completely. Makes 16 squares
