Rocky Road Chocolate Valentine Hearts

February 13, 2019 by Joseph Sciascia Leave a Comment

Boxed chocolates are great to buy for your valentine but look around your pantry and I bet you have these few items lying around.  You can make your own heart shaped chocolate bark in a matter of minutes and chill in the fridge.  Homemade candies, cookies and cakes always warm the hearts of the ones you love.  I give homemade gifts of all kinds to my partner, family and friends.  Nothing says “I love you” more like a homemade gift or Valentine’s card, it will sure bring an abundance of smiles and hugs! Very kid friendly recipe, feel free to have fun with this and add candies, cereal or sprinkles instead of nuts or marshmallows.  It’s a perfect rainy day project for the family…get them off the electronic screens and in to the kitchen.

Too pretty to eat
This one is my favorite photo, looks Victorian in a way…

Ingredients

  • 4 cups chocolate chips, semi-sweet or milk chocolate work best
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 3/4 cup crushed toasted almonds

Special Equipment

  • 4 or 8 heart shaped cookie cutters
  • 1 sheet pan
  • non stick spray

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler on the stove-top or in a microwave safe glass bowl, I used a large Pyrex measuring bowl and Microwaved in increments of a 1 ½ minutes and stir until melted through.
  2. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone mat
  3. Place the cookie cutters onto the sheet pan over that and spray the cookie cutters with nonstick spray including the parchment that the cookie cutters are laying over
  4. Spoon the melted chocolate into each cookie cutter to about ½ full, add the marshmallows and sprinkle the almonds, lightly pressing them in, drizzle a bit more chocolate on top of that.  Chill for 3 hours in the refrigerator or overnight

  5. Remove from the fridge and gently press on top of the chocolate while pulling the cookie cutter off
  6. I did 2 batches so I came up with a total of 8 hearts
